Most people in Uganda live on half a dollar a day and hardly afford the basic necessities of life. The living conditions worsen with the addition of the need to attend to spontaneous medical bills in cases of ill health and other un-prompted socio-economic emergencies.

Subsequently, the hardships lead to poor livelihood and eventually death sometimes. At this stage, more complications suffice including handling and management of the funeral processes and eventual burial arrangements. Unlike in countries such as Malaysia and Tanzania, when death occurs in Uganda, the janaza is released to relatives and taken home for funeral and burial preparations.

This implies that, the ghusl, kafn and at times janaza prayers are conducted at home before the corpse is transported to the graveyard for burial. The homes of the deceased at times is hundreds of kilometers away from the hospitals where they had been taken for treatment.

It has been observed that due to the high costs involved in the management of funerals by registered professional funeral services, most people opt to use unconventional methods to transport their loved ones to their burial sites. Sometimes, these unpremeditated methods are contrary to the laws of the nation and eventually and occasionally lead to apprehensions and prosecution or heavy fines.
